2006 Bar Exams – surviving the waiting game

Whew!

After a waiting period that seemed like an eternity, specially for those who took the 2006 bar exams and their loved ones, the results were finally released yesterday (see the Top Ten and complete list here). Congratulations to those who made it, soon to join the Philippine bar. To the aspirants whose entry to the ranks of lawyers had been slightly delayed, this should be a challenge for the next exams. To be sure, everyone will have plenty to reflect on this holy week.

I’m also glad the waiting game is over. I’m glad not only for the aspiring lawyers who had been willingly tortured, but, on a less important aspect, also because this blog is now online again. For the past 2 days, this humble blawg became the sounding board of tortured souls, and because of the unusually heavy traffic, my good friend Mish had to put this blawg offline in order to protect the other sites hosted on the free server.

Now, anyone care to invite us to their victory par-tay (next week, that is, after the holy week)? =)

  4. T-Bag, let me take a look at your suggestion. In the meantime, I’m thinking our discussions here (or at http://www.jlp-law.com/blog) could serve as the Forum.

  12. hi atty. fred. =)

i am the one who asked a lot of questions regarding the best possible employment for a new lawyer.

as advised, i have decided to join a makati-based law firm. it was a bit exciting and thrilling at first. it’s my first job so the mere thought of earning my own money got me excited. add to that the fact that i will be working as a lawyer.

newcomer as i am, i am a bit shocked with what i experienced in my first weeks of work.

is it normal for a lawyer to be assigned only corporate cases? by handling corporate cases, does it mean that the following tasks that i am assigned are the normal tasks:

    proofreading an information sheet
    issuing and cancelling stock certificates
preparing the minutes of the stockholders’ meeting
attending the stockholders’ meeting and taking part in the same
checking the requirements of the boi and sec before the partner prepares the letter directed to the same

  13. by the way, for the information of the 2007 bar examinees, their chairman will be J. Adolfo Azcuna.

another information which i think will be helpful to all is this: J. Azcuna loves asking what you would consider as out of the world questions. these are the questions that are intended to puzzle the examinee or worse, to fail one.

an example of the odd question asked by him is the writ of amparo question asked several years in the bar. this was what was asked instead of simply asking what the writ of habeas corpus is.

goodluck and God bless to you all.

  14. I’m nervous, I believe you can’t get your grades in the immediate future. Just proceed in preparing for the bar exams without it.

Notary wannabe, you can’t be a notary public in two jurisdictions. Please see the pertinent guidelines in the 2004 Rules on Notarial Practice here:
    http://www.supremecourt.gov.ph/rulesofcourt/2004/rule_notarial_practice.htm

Newbie, congratulations in your first job =) Yes, that’s normal and you should welcome that. Should you be promoted to Senior Associate or should you be instructed to supervise paralegals, you’ll be able to better direct your subordinates because you know the forms and requirements by heart. Besides, those ahead of you had paid their dues, you should pay yours. Be happy with the dirty work, so to speak, because you’ll learn so much doing those. Good luck!

  15. Hi everyone! A warm congratulations to all who passed the exam! Welcome to the new chapter of your lives as lawyers. For those who didn’t make it, no need to despair for this only means that you have the chance to evaluate and re assess your so called “opportunities”. A true failure applies to one who has never tried to fight the battle…and the battle is not complete until you try and try and succeed..,eventually! I know you guys can make it. Thanks for sharing! :)
