Topics for Legal Thesis

An interesting search parameter found its way into the Philippine e-Legal Forum just a while ago. The search string is this: legal topics in thesis. There were previous suggestions for topics, but that was last year. Maybe let’s open a thread where anyone could suggest possible legal thesis topics. It would definitely add to your positive karma. =)

WordPress Plugins: list of great and easy ones

There’s a previous list of useful plugins used in this site, but some plugins in the list got “outdated” when this blog moved to a new server, and was upgraded to WordPress 2.2 and the 0.9.5.2 version of 3 Column K2. Some of the plugins, like the Related Posts and Sociable plugins, somehow reported errors when activated.

Some of the plugins still work without a hitch. These are Akismet (anti-spam), Page Links To (sets a “links_to” meta key with a URL value that will be be used when listing WP pages), Simple Tags (creates a list of Technorati tags at the bottom of the post), Ultimate Tag Warrior, and Top Commenters (the name is self-explanatory; it has been deactivated as part of an “experiment”). Senator Antonio Trillanes: Should he be allowed to post bail

We have a poll (see upper right sidebar) on people’s opinion on the application for bail of Senator Antonio Trillanes. You may vote only once.

Someone suggested to open the discussion because, as you can see from the poll, there’s no portion where you can explain your vote or post a comment. You may do that here. Read more »

Annulment in the Philippines: Questions and Answers (Part II)

There were a lot of questions on the first FAQ, some of which were not answered due to certain prohibitions (see Part 1 or Part 3). For information purposes, we added Part II, wherein we discussed other common issues relating to the topic on annulment and divorce. These issues include the role of the Solicitor General, the duration and costs of annulment proceedings, and where to seek free legal aid. Read more »

Blogging bar examinees – 2007

There were quite a few examinees of the 2006 bar examination that have blogs. Some of them found their way here, together with other reviewees who shared their opinions, emotions, apprehensions and hopes. Many shared helpful information. Others expressed their appreciation, for which I’m thankful. Read more »

Insolvency and Criminal Cases

One concern of creditors in filing a case for collection is the possibility of getting nothing in the end because the debtor has no properties to satisfy the judgment award, while spending more money for legal fees. A pyrrhic victory, so to speak. In fact, I often come across debtors dropping the hint of filing, or actually filing, a case for insolvency or bankruptcy just to bring home the (alleged) point that they have nothing more to cough out. Wedding Survival Guide for Men

Our office is a stone’s throw away from one of the better (and, unfortunately, expensive) wedding venues in town. With our office balcony facing the venue, we would often be treated to spectacular fireworks, courtesy of the paying bride and groom. It reminds me of my wedding, which I survived 2 years ago. Having survived the initiation rites, I believe I could suggest certain tips to the brave neophytes who would want to get into this marriage fraternity. Read more »

Ten Commandments on the Road

When you go to the parking lot of Congress, you’ll have the impression that each one is out to “outsize” the car of everyone else. You’ll see the biggest cars there; and I don’t mean only five or ten cars. It seems to reflect an unspoken rule: the bigger car you have, the more powerful you are. If this is so, then it is a violation of the 5th of the Ten Commandments – for drivers, that is.

The Vatican, which apparently is also concerned with your driving habits, issued a set of Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road. The Guidelines include a “decalogue”, in analogy with the Ten Commandments. Let’s call it the Ten Commandments for drivers: Read more »

Credit cards and unfair collection practices

There are a number of good reasons in favor of having and using a credit card. It’s like owning a gun – it’s really a matter of how you use it. I know, not because I own a gun, but because I’ve handled an international credit card institution for years. Read more »

Boracay, one of the world’s best beaches

I once said, and still believe, that Boracay is a beach paradise, one of the best in the world. This is true, as shown by these rankings: Read more »
