  1. Hi milo.

Pero nagwork ako sa isang top gocc for 9 years. Wala pa yung appointment ko. Busy si commissioner sa sona. Hay. Hehe.

Congratulations po for being a member of the most noble profession. Part time student po kasi ako from a provincial law school. I work as a bank employee. Ano po ba yung mga tips and advice na maibigay niyo po sakin today para makapag prepare sa bar exams ko? ayun working po kasi ako and frankly, di ko na po nasundan yung advice na (the preparation for the bar starts in the first day of your first year).

    • We have similar experiences Mark. I was a full time working as a high school teacher/department chairperson while finishing law school. In fact, worse sa akin kasi because of work I had to stop three years in between before I pursued the last two years. Medyo nawala ang momentum in between. In fact, I finished law school thinking I never really learned much kasi nga I can only read much on Saturday and Sunday. But pumasa ako sa 2013 bar exam.

      Suggestions ko:
      1) Since 2017 pa ang target mo, assume that you are a freshman all over again by studying the first year law books. I tell you, most of the bar questions derive the answers from the freshmen’s books like the New Civil Code which you must learn by heart from the first page to the last page (from the first concept to the last therein), the criminal law books (from first concept to the last) so on and so forth. Since 2017 ka pa magtake, huwag agad bumalik sa fourth year review books. You can take care of these next year na.
      2) To be honest, I reviewed in Manila (San Sebastian) the first time. But I realized I should have stayed at home (less expenses, more familiar places to relax and jog, the safe feeling thing). The next time around, I stayed in the province although I rented a pad for myself to move away from the usual worries at home. Feeling ko if I did that the first time, I could have passed right away. Sa Manila kasi it took me the whole two months of April and May to adjust while I battled the loneliness. In the province I already settled myself March pa lang. I was still working half day and read the other half day during my 2013 take because I had no other financial sources but work. In your case if you have the money have the whole day to read and review. But I suggest stay in the province. Punta ka lang Manila a month before the bar month. If the worry is academic resources…gather them early and stick with them. You don’t need to feel inadequate simply because wala kang reviewers from manila. In my case, i gathered the three basics (codals, textbooks and San Beda memory aid) and three reinforcements (SC website decided cases, complete previous bar exams with answers and powerpoint reviewers from reviews I attended which I painstakingly made). In short the formula SIX.
      3) kung gusto mo talaga makinig sa very good reviewers na Manila is bragging about…pumupunta naman sila sa provincial review centers (like my idol Dean Riano). But then I spent my time reading myself and less on attending lectures.
      4) I also came from a small provincial school in fact last year dalawa lang kami pumasa from our school. Don’t worry, meron talagang passers’ slots for provincial law schools whether Manila likes it or not.

Until here na muna. Pray and stay fit. It is very important. God bless.

  4. Salamat ng marami Atty. OMG! I will now start to read, re-read and hopefully memorize by heart the codal, cases and concepts in Persons, Obli, Consti1&2 and Crim1&2. I will devote most of my weekends in reading and focusing on these subjs. Salamat ulit ng marami sa tips and more power!

      • Haha! I dropped my application there sa OSG last May. A few weeks after that I received a letter in my mail acknowledging the receipt of my application and the accompanying documents. They commended me for showing interest in the public service….never heard from them since… :(
