2017 Bar Exam: Information, Discussions, Tips, Questions and Results

The early bird gets the worm, as they say, so we’re starting the 2017 bar exam thread early. As always, we have separate post to track and centralize discussions on the preparations, schedule and related information for the 2017 bar examination (those who wish to continue discussing the 2016 bar exam, go here). The bar results will also be posted here. This post will be updated from time to time. Feel free to drop by and share your updates through the comment section below. As always, good luck and God bless, ladies and gents.

  1. Justice Bersamin is the bar chairman this year as confirmed by Justice Sereno during our oath-taking.

For those who are fully decided to take the bar this year, hope these may help you.

    1. Check the 2017 syllabi. There are changes as to coverage of the exam for this year.
    – Make these syllabi as your guidance to check if you have covered everything before bar month comes. It adds confidence.

If i recall it right, in mercantile during pre-week, i browse the commercial law syllabus to check if i have covered all the topics. The first question in mercantile was “foreign investment act” and that is the last topic stated in the syllabus. Had i not read it, i might not be able to answer it and loose the 5 points, worst, these might be a reason to have a failure grade.

    2. Assess yourself.
-You know very well yourself, the style or habits of others might not be effective to you.

    3. Bar Materials
    – I agree with others, have at least 2 references in every bar subject. There is no shortcut in preparing for the bar exam. In my case, if i feel that I am not yet confident or satisfy with my materials for that particular subject, i grab another textbook as my 3rd reference. (of course, hindi lahat ng bar materials dapat mong basahin.) Mastery is the key.

    4. Its a must to read your bar chairman cases
    – Read the cases penned by Justice Bersamin (for this year bar). Jot down the principles and make these notes as your reviewer for pre-week.

    5. Bar Exam is all about you. (excuses to those who believe in “bar buddies”).
    – From pre-bar to pre-week until the bar exam itself. Its your own effort that counts.
Everything that happens to you is the result of your action. You reap what you sow.
Focus! keep yourself away from distractions.
I have batch/bar friends too, pero limit kami sa exchange of notes, materials etc., and kanya kanya kami ng aral. Even dorms and review centers namin hiwa-hiwalay. (advantage kasi, since iba iba kami ng review centers, ust, beda, villasis, jurist, albano, arellano, baste, so ikot materials samin, then we choose yung few pages lang to supplement with our existing reading materials.)
As much as possible we don’t want bar discussion unless hindi clear talaga, that’s the only time we asked each other and discussed (around 30 mins lang sa phone pa yan not in person) what if this question asked in the bar, anong magandang sagot based on law/jurisprudence. Luckily, 100% passed kami.

    6. Write legibly.
    – Again, i agree with them, practice practice, practice. Choose your pen now. Have a friend or friends to assess if okay ba sa kanila color ng pen mo (blue or black) and yung handwriting mo. Write 5 to 6 words per line. (Nasa instruction yan upon claiming your bar exam permit)

    7. Most of all, PRAY for guidance, good health, wisdom, protection until you finish this race.
    – prayer without work is nothing and vice versa.

I noticed that lots of 2016 Bar passers and others as well already gave their own bar tips, materials, do’s and dont’s. WE WANT YOU GUYS TO PASS THE BAR. We’ll be glad to see more numbers of successful bar candidates every year but of course in the end, IKAW PADIN YAN at IKAW LANG. Not because mataas ang passing rate last year kaya mababa this year, or because ang examiners kasi are not academe etc. etc. etc.

REMEMBER: LAHAT NG GAGAWIN OR GINAWA MO SA BAR AY BABALIK SAYO SA DAY NG RESULT. I guarantee you, its hard to explain the feeling kapag nalaman mo na pumasa ka.
Goodluck guys! I pray for all of you!

  2. Anung reviewer po ang ginamit nio for the bar s taxation? My suggestions po ba kayo na q and a frmat? Thnks po

    1. I used Mickey Ingles’ tax reviewer. It’s not a q & a format but it’s good especially if you’re having a hard time studying tax. I highly recommend it.

    1. @karlo

If you have not taken the MCLE yet, sa palagay ko, wala ka pa tlagang mailalagay dahil d ka pa nga naka-comply.
By the way, may sched ng MCLE sa U.P. Diliman ang venue, (4 Saturdays of July, 36 hours na lahat makukuha mo after finishing the 4 Saturdays).
P8,400 ang fee (for 36 hrs).
      P3,100 per day (for 9 hours/day),
      P1,200 (for 2-hour session),
      P1,500 (for 3-hour session).
Be ready with your 1×1 ID pic, two copies
      June 27 deadline of registration.
