The diverse opinions on the 2007 bar examination expressed in this site probably reflects the level of “controversy” surrounding it. I agree that more reforms are needed, although it’s unfair to say that the Supreme Court is not doing anything about it. I agree that the Supreme Court is not perfect, but any effort to destroy its credibility, especially when based on mere allegations, should never be allowed as it brings more harm. I agree that some are luckier than others, but it’s unfair to attribute everything to luck because we all know the extreme difficulty in preparing for the bar exams. I agree that there’s nothing else we could do because the result was already released, but it’s unfair to tell those who want to express their respective opinions to shut up.
To those who made it, congratulations. May you be magnanimous in victory. All bar examinees are on the same boat, so to speak, and the victory of some is never anchored on the fact that others didn’t make it. Go ahead and celebrate, but always err on the side of restraint.
To the majority who will have to wait, let’s move on, and may the future be favorable to you. Life goes on. In closing, allow me to paraphrase the words of Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno, for those who refuse to let their dreams die:

I dispel all rumors that I will not pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. Those who desire to reduce me to posthumous significance will not experience any ecstasy.
I will continue to work as a humble student of the law and as always, I pledge to fight for the civil liberties of the people against abuses coming from any and all sources, to do battle with vested interests especially those who believe they have a divine right to selfishness and to protect the institutional independence of the courts against threats of tampering from within and without their portals.
I wish the new lawyers for 2008 all the best!

Tinkering with internet tools comes with the bonus of better understanding how existing laws apply to the third wave - that of technology, particularly the internet. This is also a great medium to disseminate and discuss ideas across borders, time, color or creed.
yes, we may differ in points of view but isnt it that lawyers always agree to disagree?
we might be needing the help of people like you. HAVE FAITH! who knows…. the lowest passing percentage in the bar history of 5% (if it was implemented) might turn out to be the highest…..
PLEASE PASS.
Article III, BILL OF RIGHTS, is the basic source of substantive rights One of the rights mentioned therein which is protected by the due process clause from impairment is the RIGHT TO PROPERTY. The right to practice any profession, vocation or calling including the RIGHT TO TAKE THE BAR/BOARD EXAMS, is embraced in the term ‘PROPERTY RIGHT.”
-nice point..
@t goimon, did u pass the bar?
catmeup,
thanks. kindly go over the website of chan robles re: bar matter no. 1161 specifically on the reiteration of the rule that ‘a candidate who got a grade below 50 per cent in any subject is DISQUALIFIED.
it is an en banc resolution, duly published in two newspapers of general circulation and it amended substantially Rule 138, Section 14 of the Rules of court. it became effective on july 15, 2004. Surprisingly, three justices who had relatives who took and passed the 2007 bar exams were signatories to the resolution. To complete the cast, the chairman of the barexcom also signed the resolution.
PLEASE PASS.
I have this sentiment to those who failed in the 2007barEx. However, even to this date no proper action is undertaken to question, and ultimately resolved, before the proper fura those they believe substantive issues of the said barEx. I don’t know… Alright, I guess it is inappropriate to question the result of the bar. I am referring to that list of bar passers. All of them deserved to pass in my humble opinion. On the other hand, I firmly believe too that some of those who failed don’t deserve to fail! But be that as it may what we cannot allow, however, is the possibility that this thing will happen again in the future! That’s what I am concerned of. I believe, it could be best for the supreme court to provide measures in order that this thing will not happen again. HOWEVER, until today nothing was undertaken… that… it is as if the Supreme Court itself recognized the legitimacy of what happened in that 2007 BarEx… In other words, there maybe injury yes but such is not legally actionable. That’s how I see it.
Here’s more… those who got a grade of below 75 maybe deemed mestiso or mestisa. Please don’t make me wrong. I am not against them. I have an impartial respect to those who made it in that 2007 barEx. But you see, if you put yourselves to their shoes you maybe feeling incomplete. What I mean is, okey, they are now a licensed lawyer but if they will think of their grades which is below 75, they can always have this compulsion to think that in truth and in fact they are like the majority… And such will haunt them! That make them mestizos and mestizas and this fact is will addressed by e-mailer 282 especially if they got DQs! They also have pride like us, you know… But of course, passed is a passed… Just that we have egos too!
What I am saying then is that to those who failed in the 2007 bar exam – all of you are not at the end of the rope. There is always next time… And who knows but that time you can pass with right ratings! Do you think by that time you can have peace of mind? So don’t you think your failure is merely a blessing in disguise?
Well, just do it right in your next attempt and just hope that what happened in that 2007 barEx will not happen again.
Finally, it is very amusing to observe that when the result of that 2007 barEx was released, a faction between those who passed and those who failed became so obvious! It is as if those who passed became adversaries with those who failed. Why is that? Can they not think that both of them belong to the same batch? Instead for them to criticize and antagonize the members of their batch who failed, they are suppose to lobby for their fellows’ behalf. Not to vendicate the misfortune of those who failed but to see to it that… again… the remarkable thing that happened in the 2007 BarEx will not be repeated… And for the sake of being a monotone, until and unless proper measures can be had… taking the future barEx is very scary…
@catmeup: una: taking the bar is never a right… to practice yes… to take no….
and i wont say if i passed or even took the bar
what i dont get is why people still pin tha idea of lowering the bar on the fact that there are relatives of justices who took the exam…. if you feel strongly against it.. do something about it.. file a petition… and quit whining… if you cant prove such allegations nor have tha balls to file a petition against it.. shut your mouth and know your role…..
Hahahaha… Nice one there goimon… very well said.
My take on the issue about taking the bar? I agree with goimon. Yes, once a person becomes a lawyer, his right to practice in the legal profession is a substantive right, but taking the bar is a privilege.
Gregory,
looks like you have a point.
bar matter 1161 indeed substantially amended Rule 138, Section 14 of the Rules of Court. it reiterated the rule that a candidate who obtained a grade below 50% in any subject is disqualified; no mentioned however was made in the passing grade so the traditional practice of the SC to lower the passing grade stays….
all the justices except one who was on leave, signed the resolution which was published in a newspaper of general circulation.
you are not alone…… MY FRIEND.
to webster,
thanks. you sound like DANIEL….. the webster i know.
