If “amici curiae” means “friends of the court,” is it correct to say that “blawg amici” means “friends of this law blog”? Whether it’s wrong or not, let’s put a face and congratulate, in no particular order, those who contributed to the traffic (the reason why this blog broke down at least three times) and who became lawyers (subject to the taking of lawyer’s oath and signing of the roll of attorneys, two requisites before becoming a full-fledged lawyer) in the process:
Macka (Atty. Allan Reiz C. Macaraig)
Barcrammer (Atty. Rachel Barroso)
Ayemempoy (Atty. Armeen Alain B. Gomez)
Master Jedi (Atty. Jim Villanueva)
lex888 (Atty. Marforth Fua, 8th place)
Weng M. (Atty. Ma. Rowena Falculan-Mari)
Turney (Atty. Grandis Rem T. Manalabe)
Alpha_Mike (Atty. Anthony Lawrence M. Morales)
Barbie’s Sis (Atty. Eddalaine M. Figueroa)
feverish (Atty. Karren Maricris G. Cacabelos)
Koji (Atty. Manolito M. Apostol, Jr.)
einnod .ytta (Atty. Alezandro S. Casabar)
pussycat (Atty. Joselito D. Fernandez)
ggc (Atty. Gissle Gay A. Capacite-Ballais)
kakampi (Atty. Fernand Abella Castro)
tonks (Atty. John Dave G. Vergara)
alyas boy pogi (Atty. Michal L. Gatchalian)
fingershadow (Atty. Marlon G. Fajardo)
rw147 (Atty. Wendy S. Reyes)
Jewris (Atty. Aldrin G. Peñaflor)
therese (Atty. Maria Yasmin M. Obillos)
tiklo (Atty. John-Christopher Tanjili Mahamud)
plelyn (Atty. Herlyn L. Pasatiempo)
There are so many others who made it, but unless you folks step up and put a face to your “pen names” (let’s hope Bruno does =), we can’t put them here. Please use the comment section below.
To those who didn’t make it, life goes on. I know many many lawyers who didn’t make it the first time, but are great practitioners today. Atty. Fernandez failed in his first take, then ranked No. 1 in his second try. As I mentioned before, hope is always genuine. We hope to pass the bar exams. But people often forget that hope should not be equated with the outcome. If we do that, we’ll most probably be disappointed. With hope comes acceptance. We strive for something and it is hope that keeps our drive burning. We should learn to accept, difficult it may be, whatever comes out of our endeavors. Then we move on from there. It’s now time to prepare for the 2008 exams this September. Let’s not waste the precious time left.

koji, it’s indeed an honor to say that one member of the site topped the bar exams. There’s already a venue where students of law — lawyers, law students and those interested with the law — could converse, here: http://bar.attyatwork.com
alpha_mike, I don’t what to say being lumped with ‘Tol Mike (he’s not a lawyer, although his father is a lawyer).
Tao rin lang naman ang mga abogado, need to enjoy the guilty pleasures in life, specially after surviving the bar exams. Ingat lang sa celebration…the headline a day after the release of our bar exams was this: “Pumasa sa bar, sinaksak sa bar.”
alpha_mike
bakit may magooppose ba.. naku lagot ka
@ Atty. WaLLy WesT: Huh? Mag-ooppose po saan? Hehe. [Senxa po...]
@ Atty. Fred: Haha. ‘Tol Mike. lol Kung wala yung mga commercials ni Pichay, yung ‘Tol na commercial ang nakakatawa. Parang nakakaloko yung ngiti ni Sec. Mike dun. Haha.
Okay thanks atty fred for the link.
Hehe.
To m:
brand name yan ng kape; TONKAT ALI, indonesian 3 in 1 coffee ata yun. Ito din ang pangalan ng pusa ko. I thought i’d use this as a username. Unique ba? he he he.

Hey Atty. Fred, what advise can you give to probinsyano new lawyers na mag tetake ng oath – regarding the best time to go there in Manila, the place to stay, what to bring inside PICC, fees, priorities in the date of signing in the Roll of Attorneys? I figured, there would be a need to stay there for about two weeks; kinda draining on the pocket.

I think I’ll continue giving comments here. This site has become part of me; a new habit that I accidentally adopted. At first (sometime in Feb.), i was reluctant to give any comments although i was religiously reading every posts. Then i got the hang of it. Now, it pleases me always to give comments here and reading everyone’s posts.
Viva http://www.attyatwork.com!
Blawg Amici reprezent! hehe
I admit that this blog has played an important role in my journey to the 2007 bar.
Sometimes a barrister really gets depressed and paranoid even if he doesn’t admit it. This place in the web, through Atty. Fred, will help you ease that burden. Even so when he put up the forum – bar.attyatwork.com
If there will ever be a sort of blog awards for those legally inclined blogs, God is with me – this sweet creation – attyatwork will definitely top it. Nakaisip na agad ako name ng awards.. “Legally Blog” nyahahahaha
Dios Mabalos Saimo Atty. Fred!
Peace

Why do most people keep on calling those who will take and those who are waiting for the results of the BarEx “BARRISTER”?
From what I’ve read few years ago, a barrister refers to lawyer of a specific type (I forgot what type of lawyer it is used to refer to.).
ang alam ko yung barrister refers to a brittish lawyer who speaks sa mga higher courts…..
atty. fred habol ako sa list, so busy talaga after the realese of the result, compute ako gastos, naisip ko at ng mrs. ko na parang magpapakasal pala ulit kami sa laki ng gastos sa blow out, di bale basta pasado.hehehe. re: the issue about o7 bar exam, i would say our batch will always be remembered, in a positive or negative way? i do not know, history will be the ulitimate judge, for me i am still proud to survive this most gruelling exam of my life, regardless the score i obtained. the grade does not matter anymore.
turney, i think we are not batchmates, id no. ko 01150103, i didn’t take 06 bar exam for health reasons. i tried my best na humabol, di na kaya katawan ko. i really knew kasi that 06 passing rate would be higher as the trend dictates, and 07 lower as what has happened.08? for sure higher passing rate, i bet!-its big consolation to those who failed 07 bar. ergo hataw pa, dont give up and lose your tempo.
congrats to all victors, especially to all thomasians, viva uste!!
atty. fred here is my list no.945, salamat sayo na naging kanlungan ng mga taong tulad namin, mga basang sisiw sa panahong naghihintay sa mabagyong resulta ng bar exam!!-agp
Good morning!
@ alpha_mike, barristers and solicitors refer to two kinds of lawyers. Before I thought that solicitors handle mostly legal matters like wills, contracts and the like. While barristers wear wigs and appear before the High Court.
I checked wikipedia. Here’s a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrister
When I took the bar, we were called barristers, too. I know it’s wrong but it stuck. Naging tradition na ata.
@ tonks, if I remember it right, the priority in the signing of the roll will depend on how early you go to the OBC to settle the fees related to the oath taking and your first IBP dues. If you get to the OBC early, you’ll get an early schedule for the signing of the rolls. We got the results of the bar, May 2 and if I remember it right, I signed the rolls on May 25. But I got a late schedule because I could not get out of work then, to go to the OBC.
At the PICC, you would need to be dressed in a toga. The OBC will provide the tickets for you and your guests. Most likely, you will get around two tickets for your guests. Bring water or something to cool you. There will be a long line getting into the PICC and imagine standing in line, under the sun, dressed in a toga with a suit underneath.
And at the signing, wear a barong or suit because you’ll be photographed as you sign the Roll of Attorneys. For posterity. Naks. Take note of your roll number. You would need that in signing pleadings.
But this was what I experienced seven years ago ha. Things might have changed by then.
@ alpha_mike, you can provide your own toga, rent it from those shops. Sa OBC ata may mapa-parent ng toga doon. I can’t remember if the SC sent a letter for the clearance. lol. medyo matagal na yun.
