An invitation for all fathers and would-be fathers

There was a previous discussion on “theming”, which basically refers to a blog’s content. While many would say that it’s better to separate different themes, this blog didn’t go that way for various reasons. Just recently, however, we have started experimenting with various blogging and content management platforms. It’s a fun learning experience, consistent with the fact that blogging is a hobby.

There’s an on-going “re-organization” of the original categories in this blog, the latest of which is the Hesitant Father (formerly a subdomain of this blog, but substituted by PinoyDad.com). The first platform was phpbb, a forum, which was a great “toy” to tinker with. It should allow a more lively interaction among fathers and would-be fathers. A forum, however, is too unwieldy unless someone has much spare time to focus on it.

Categories. The categories are meant to organize writing and reading. Here are the categories:

Announcements. This is for the blog admin, for announcements and updates regarding the site.

As a Son. Fathers also have parents. This is the category where we thank our parents and write anything about them.

Baby on Board. For the expectant father. Waiting for the baby to come out of the womb.

Blogging. These are suggestions for fathers who are interested in blogging. Those who submit contributions in this blog are presumptively bloggers, so this should come easy.

Child Care. Tips for the health of safety of children.

Couch Potato. One of the sources of arguments between a father and his significant other is the remote control. This is all about TV, movies and everything a couch potato enjoys.

Fatherhood. This is the default category for topics about fatherhood.

Finances. Money and finance, important matters to a father who is usually the breadwinner of the family. While fatherhood is not all about money, it’s still a crucial matter.

Food. Everything fathers and their children eat.

Gadgets. For some strange reason, fathers are drawn to tools and gadgets, in the same way that mothers are drawn to shoes and shopping.

Kids Time Out. These are places and events where fathers could bring their children to spend some quality time.

Life and Death. Reflections about life, and, necessarily, death.

Marriage. While fatherhood does not require marriage, it’s still an institution that deserves a separate category.

Overseas Filipinos. Just like marriage, this deserves a separate category considering the peculiar situations an overseas/OFW father face.

Significant Other. We tackle our interaction with those creatures from Venus. This is intentionally separated from “marriage,” as a father need not be married.

Sports. Fathers need an active life for a variety of reasons. This is where we discuss sports and active lifestyle.

Transpo Plus. We love our cars. We love to tinker with it. But this passion is not limited to cars, but also to anything that goes on the road, like a motorcycle or a mountain bike.

Work. What can I say. Every father needs to work.

Please feel free to share your thoughts there. Thanks.
