We might not be able to second guess the meaning and motives of the move to impeach Chief Justice Puno. A few years before Marcos declared Martial Law, there was a lot of talk that it was a matter of time before Marcos will declare Martial Law. That loose talk turned to reality later on. The rest is history. For us today, we should ever be vigilant and we should have the courage to oppose any threat to our cherished liberty. Members of civil society who formed themselves to watch the forthcoming new appointments to the Supereme Court should do the same for the position of Chief Justice. We might not be able to second guess the meaning and motives of the move to impeach Chief Justice Puno.

A few years before Marcos declared Martial Law, there was a lot of talk that it was a matter of time before Marcos will declare Martial Law. That loose talk turned to reality later on. The rest is history.

For us today, we should ever be vigilant and we should have the courage to oppose any threat to our cherished liberty.
