Succession Issue: How to Compute the Legitime

Among the benefits of having a community is the help extended by members to queries made by other members. A discussion is always helpful. For instance, MichaelTips posted a query over at the thread on 2012 Bar Exams:

Sa mga ‘master’ ang succession, pakitulong nga po. Succession was our topic earlier today in the review and I am having a hard time on legitimes, free portion etc.

Please explain the how the legitime of someone who is survived by his spouse, two legitimate children and four illegitimate children will be divided. Thanks in advance.

There are already discussions made by members, particularly Not A Master in Succession and Bana. We are transferring the post here so others would conveniently find it and discuss. Good luck, everyone.
