The University of the Philippines (U.P.) College of Law has announced the holding of the Law Aptitude Examination (LAE) for academic year 2008-2009. The LAE is the entrance exam for the UPLaw.
The LAE is scheduled on 25 November 2007 (Sunday, 7:30 a.m.), with test centers in UP Diliman, UP Cebu, UP Mindanao (Davao City) and UP Baguio.
Anyone planning to enter the U.P. College of Law, who has finished or is finishing at least a bachelor’s degree in the arts or sciences from a recognized college or university, is qualified to take the examination upon prior application and proper identification and registration. An applicant can take LAE a maximum of three (3) times effective SY 2007-2008.
Applicants with yearly gross family income of P100,000.00 or less are exempted from payment of testing fee.
The last day of filing of application forms is on 16 November 2007 (without fine) or 23 November 2007 (with fine). Click here to download the application form.
Update (22 January 2008): I heard that the LAE results were released today. Here’s the UNOFFICIAL list, courtesy of Jester (will still have to verify the list tomorrow). Please CROSS-CHECK with the official list posted at the UP College of Law. Please note that the written exam is only the first part of the selection process. There are 301 who passed the written exam. The second phase is the panel interview (schedules will be announced later by UPLaw).
Update (9 April 2008): The official list of those who made it through LAE and are qualified to enroll as first year students at the UP College of Law for the SY 2008-2009 is posted in the UPLaw official website. First part is here and the second part is here.
Update: As appearing in the UPLAW website: “For school year 2009-2010, the LAE will be administered on Sunday, 23 November 2008, in U.P. Diliman, U.P. Cebu, U.P. Baguio and U.P. Davao.” Deadline is on 14 November 2008 (without fine) or 21 November 2008 (with fine). The form may be downloaded from this link (.doc format or .pdf format). Good luck.
Update (3 February 2009): 2009-2010 LAE results already out. See list from comments below. Congratulations.
Update (12 February 2010): 2010-2011 LAE Results released today. See comment of Nina, with thanks, for the list (click here). Waiting is over. Congratulations to those who made it. To the rest, it’s just a detour. Good luck and God bless.

You would have this feeling that your professors don’t care if you pass or fail law — you are there to get it. You fight for it. They’re not there to hold your hand. If you question yourself even before getting in, then maybe it’s only fair that somebod.y else gets that limited slot.

Hahahaha.
I guess we all deserve it, hindi kaya biro mag-hintay noh! :p

by ianp
10 Feb 2010 at 03:59
by Board Member
10 Feb 2010 at 06:26
Talagang sadya ‘yan to accommodate working students, evening and weekends lang pasok.

10 Feb 2010 at 16:49
midshift ang pasok ko, kaya di ako pwede ng working sched (evening classes).. or pwede naman siguro special arrangements for AM class pero pang-5 yr curriculum? hm, bahala na. wala pa naman results. hehe.
post kayo ng details ng inuman ng makapunta.. hehe..
by hopeful lad
10 Feb 2010 at 07:53
So Board Member, are you saying only one section is allotted for working students?
by Eng Beetin
10 Feb 2010 at 08:17
Was there a part on the form that we filled up that says “working student?” I can’t remember. But if there was none, I do not think UP Law, at this point in time has an idea who will be enrolling in day or night classes.
by hopeful lad
10 Feb 2010 at 09:53
I believe if you indicated that you want to be enrolled to the evening class, it presupposes that you are working. A friend from UP Law said that the administration does not allow regular students to be enrolled to that class.
I’m just not sure if they have more than 1 evening section, thus I asked the question earlier. If this is the case, does that mean there will be a separate screening for examinees who indicated that they want to enroll to the regular classes and for those who intend to enroll to evening classes?
by Board Member
10 Feb 2010 at 13:21
Hmmm, how do I put it. If you’re a working student, you could be in any section (but I heard they removed the sections na). If day section ka mapunta, then lookout mo na to make sure that your work doesn’t get in the way of your law classes. Kung evening section ka, all classes are specifically scheduled to accommodate those who work in the day. I just don’t know how they select those in the evening.

10 Feb 2010 at 08:31
sana ilabas na nila :’)
by gerard
10 Feb 2010 at 08:45
@ Eng Beetin
yes, there was a portion asking whether you are planning to enrol in the day or night classes.
by Eng Beetin
10 Feb 2010 at 09:09
@gerard
thanks! Malamang nga they’b be using that info for screening considerations. I guess that makes the competition tougher. Anyways, here’s hoping that the results come out today. It’s been a very long wait.
I am sure, those who are tasked to come out with the list are equally pressured – with all our calls and the likes. Kulang na nga lang e we go to Malcolm and force them to cough out the results. =)

Waiting.. is my most hated word right now. Sa araw-araw na ginawa ni God since feb started, araw-araw ko din pinagppray na sana this is the day na lalabas yung result! Woah!
Hehe.

@engbeetin: Yeah that’s way better! Ano ba yan wala akong mapagsharean ng anxiety ko dahil ayokong sabihin sa mga friends ko that i took LAE. So it’s only in this thread that I get to share my agony with you my fellow aspiring UP law students. Super helpful.
Btw, engbeetin is my favorite hopia. Share lang. (out of topic)

So should we stop checking for results this week? I’m trying to not think of the results as much as I can pero ang hirap eh. I still find myself checking this blog and the UP Law site every hour or so. I need a distraction!
We should all take bets on when these results are coming out! Ako, next Tuesday pa ata. What do you guys think? I’m hoping to be proven wrong and that the people at UP manage to furnish a list by this week naman.
by Kebs Daw
10 Feb 2010 at 11:36
by hyperboliccosecant
10 Feb 2010 at 11:02
@Liz: I think it’d be better if we think that way. At least if the results come out this week we’ll be surprised! I just keep on hitting the refresh button every minute or so. Haha! It’s addictive!
by Siopao
10 Feb 2010 at 11:19
Haha. Me too! Refersh ng refresh, hindi na ako nakakapagtrabaho.
At least, I’m not alone. I just really want to know if I passed or not. Para if not, I can go on with my life. HAHA.
What field are you planning to pursue after law school? Haha)
by hyperboliccosecant
10 Feb 2010 at 11:34
Field? Hindi ko pa napapag-isipan. I’ll just cross the bridge when I pass LAE. Hahaha!

10 Feb 2010 at 11:42
Haha.
by hyperboliccosecant
10 Feb 2010 at 11:56
Hmm. Yeah i remember tinanong nga sa beda. Haha. I also took Beda’s entrance exam btw.
by Sen. Kiko Matsing
10 Feb 2010 at 11:18
Marami pa naman ibang law school dyan. Equally good.
Pero ito kasi ang advantages hehe
2. Pag nasa UP Law ka you earn some respect, deserved or not.
3. MURA! ang tuition
by Siopao
10 Feb 2010 at 11:22
Sabi nga nila, iba talaga ang UP Law graduates compared to other law students. (Of course, biased yan considering the source.
)
Others are board exam oriented, while UP daw is application talaga.
by hyperboliccosecant
10 Feb 2010 at 11:33
Ako naman i consider other law schools like Beda and Ateneo. BUT, UP is UP. I don’t mean to offend other schools cause i know there are a lot of equally good schools pero iba yung makukuha mo sa UP eh. Well i don’t know sa iba pero ako most of my reasons why i want to go to UP are practical. Like first of all, less cost but good quality. You also get to experience the roller-coaster ride of life when you’re in UP. Very profound experiences, yung tipong even at a very young age you’ll be able to see the realities of life. Mahirap iexplain, yung mga isko’t iska diyan, you should know.
by Siopao
10 Feb 2010 at 11:40
I consider other school too. Like what you’ve said, UP is UP talaga. Kaya sana lang talaga Lord. Pag bigyan nya na tayo
How did you prepare for the LAE?
by hyperboliccosecant
10 Feb 2010 at 11:47
I did not prepare at all kasi last minute na din ako nagdecide that I’m gonna take up LAE. Last day na rin ako nagsubmit ng requirements. Sabi ko pa nga, pag umabot ako, this is a sign that i should try! Hahaha. But the day before the exam, naisipan kong bumili ng isang puzzle book at sinagutan ko that night. Wala lang. It didn’t help at all. Haha.
by Siopao
10 Feb 2010 at 11:50
Haha. Last day na rin ata ako nakapagpasa. Haha.Hindi rin ako nagaral. At nawala pa ako sa UP. (Lagi naman ako dumadaan dun. Pero nawala ako that day. Sa kaba siguro. Haha)

pag UP Law grad ka. ang entry level sa trabaho ay mas mataas kesa sa ibang new lawyers from other schools. and its deserved. the training, the hell, the anxiety, the triumph at the end….these are qualities that forge great lawyers. San ka pa?
