The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law has released the results of the Law Aptitude Examination (LAE) for academic year 2008-2009. Please see the list of passers and updates here. There are 301 who passed the written exam.
Please note that the written exam is only the first part of the selection process. The second phase is the panel interview. When the dust settles, only 200 will be accepted to the UP College of Law. Any celebration (and, ahem, OMG moments noted by Kalawkohan) is premature at this time.
atty fred, please email me the final results of LAE 2007. I heard that the result was out yesterday. Thank you very much and more POWER!
Joy, please see the list posted at the linked post. I’m sorry I can’t send individual emails to everyone.
Atty. Fred,
Could you please give me some tips about the content of the questions during the interview? What is the set up during the interview?
I really need to prepare for the interview. I’m currently employed right now and if I will leave my present company I have to inform them two monts in advance (my contract ends in May).
I’m just wondering, would you know how they will arrive at the final 200?
Thanks, thanks atty.fred. More power
Rosa,
There are a number of posts on this subject, so perhaps you’d be interested to read this or this.
I’m not sure what’s the exact format now. It’s usually a panel interview, with a group of professors and one student representative, usually from the Law Student Government (LSG). It’s a good cop - bad cop set up. Remember that the student representative will most likely fight for you, as she did during my time. They will intentionally test your patience. There’s no limit to the kind of questions, even personal ones, that they will ask. They will ask why you want to become a lawyer, then put holes on your reason/s. They will ask why UP, when other schools have a higher passing rate. They will ask you about your clothes, your hobbies or anything that may seem trivial.
They will test how you respond. Be confident, without being arrogant. Answer the question asked, as they will easily see if you’re evading it. Speak plain English, without the “you know,” “it’s kinda like,” “yup,” or “yeah”. Be assertive, without being disrespectful. Be sure to know what you’re talking about.
Contrary to the statement made in one forum, the interview is not entirely about testing your spoken English proficiency. It’s about testing how well you think and act under pressure (actual class recitation could be much worse), and if you deserve to be among the 200 out of 301.
Good luck and God bless.
Thank you very much Atty. Fred. I hope I’ll make it.
I stumbled upon your blogsite last december 2007. Ever since, I have been an avid reader of your blog. I find your ideas thought-provoking. No wonder you made it to UP College of Law.
God bless you, too.
Rosa, thank you for the kind words. See you here from time to time.
